The twelfth report on Family in Italy (2011) carried out by CISF (Italian Center of Studies of the Family) offers, on the basis of statistical data collected through a survey on the Italian population, an interpretation and possible concrete courses of action related to the family and in particular on “being couple in Italy today». It is common experience for family therapists, which has also been object of discussion among the trainers of the Family Therapy Institute of Florence, that most demands for treatments come from couples. The experience as trainers and clinicians in the psycho-judicial field of Family Mediation, and of the Psychological expertise intended to provide guidance to judges on custody of the children, take us to propose a new form of clinical intervention that takes into account the general “fragility” of the couple, as well as the particular critical moment in which the couple finds itself during the Life Cycle phase of the birth of a child. The economic crisis with all the related anguish, fear of the future and real impoverishment of families, has pushed us to develop a “short specific clinical intervention” which is configured as a series of 5 meetings, structured with specific methods that will be illustrated in the presentation. These meetings aim to reactivate the relational reflexivity required in the couple’s life as well as to enhance, in terms of parenting, the individual differences and resources.
