Natverkskompaniet consists of four licensed family therapists who have been working with families and their networks for the past 25 years. May 2013 they published the book «Engaging network meetings- method and practical use». Jaakko Seikkula, who wrote the foreword, describes them as world leading regarding network meetings! Network meetings are well established in Scandinavia. It is a multi systemic meeting where the private and professional network around an individual or a family in crisis assembles and meets with the help of an independent and outside leader. The individual or the family is the principal client. The leader’s main task is to facilitate and help the network to broaden their view of the situation and provide hope that change might be possible. Network meetings work by both clarifying as well as instilling energy for the clients. With adequate leadership the meetings work as a way to return the power and the strength to the clients and their families. Theories, interventions and approaches emerge from an integrative perspective with a pragmatic predisposition. Structural interventions coexist, side by side with a social constructivist approach all with the salutogenic perspective as a foundation. The starting point for all network meetings is that they should lead to an increased involvement and cooperation in-between the private and professional systems around an individual or a family. The workshop summarizes the theoretical base by focusing on approaches and interventions. The presentation is illustrated through case histories as well as practical exercises.
