Systemic training and practice has in its ways taken the world of healthcare, social services, education, management in human organisations (to name a few) by surprise, by degrees and sometimes by storm. Systemic practitioners are challenged by, and continue to challenge others to, think outside of whatever boxes have contained and restrained the move towards greater connectedness, freedom and responsibility. However this often happens at great cost to trainers and practitioners alike. Never has it been more important than now for those training systemic therapists to re-connect with the wells that we draw from which allow us to move into uncertainty and discomfort with our students with confidence and as much as possible with safety. We need to be able to de-construct and bring into question the discourses of restraint and pathology which minimise and reduce human beings to experiences of self and relationship as bad, disordered, victim-defined and problem-saturated. In doing so we take training and training of therapists beyond the pale into more transformational and liberative spaces. In this workshop we invite particpants to explore with others their experiences of these movements, in their own ongoing practice as teachers and trainers of systemic ideas.
