How does the Therapeutic Community (T.C.) for children stands within the family dysfunctional context when a child is affected by an important mental disorder? Can the T.C. become a resource for the parents? And when can it become a problem? The most qualified theories highlight the role of the couple and of the institutions keeping the young patience in the same psychological distress. The authors present a family story with an adolescent child having a Borderline Personality Disorder (B.P.D). He has received a treatment in the CT which can be defined as a prototypical therapy. Starting from the psychiatric diagnosis of B.P.D. the authors put together in a systemic-relational way the story of the couple, its evolution and the connection to the child’s symptoms. The clinical case here mentioned explains how the T.C. is the observer of family relationships and dynamic of the couple, but also becomes an important part of the relational system for the child. Therefore, depending on the T.C. position, it can be seen by the couple as a precious allied or such as an obstacle to their child recovery from a mental illness.
