Bátor Tábor is regional therapeutic recreation centre of Central European children which offers complex therapeutic recreation programs for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses and for their families. The purpose of a recent study conducted among the campers was to assess health-related quality of life in a sample of Hungarian diabetic, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and oncology patients, using self-report and parent-report questionnaires, and to compare the results with the national norm data. Children and Proxy version of the Kidscreen-52 questionnaire was used (n=259). Multivariate analysis of variance was used to reveal differences in means of the subscales of the Kidscreen-52. For determining the level of agreement between parent proxy reports and child self-reports we used the intraclass correlation coefficient for absolute agreement. Differences were found between disease groups, as well as with respect to both age and gender within the self-reports. Parents’ view on their child’s physical health, psychological well-being, parental relations, and peer relations was found to be worse in comparison with children’s own self-evaluation. Compared to the national norm data, our participants had higher autonomy scores in self-reports, and at the same time, lower social acceptance scores in proxy reports. The differences we found underpin the importance of psychosocial interventions for children with chronic conditions. The poster presentation highlights the key messages of the results to experts working with families with children living with chronic conditions.
