When parents fight and demonise each other after divorce, children are caught in the middle. These parents live in a truth: I am doing everything I can to rescue my child from this bad other parent. Judges, Lawyers, Child protection, Mediators and others can be involved. In the Lorentzhuis we started a project for these families.
We make a group of six families. A group for the divorced parents and a group for their children. We work in a dialogical way with verbal and non verbal interventions and with reconciliation rituals.
The children are involved in creating all kinds of artistic expressions around their experiences being the child of fighting divorced parents. They prepare theatre performances, clips, graffiti, drawings and music. They present their creations to the parents in a ritual session. Parents also are invited to present their wishes for the future to their children.
The outcome is promising, research has started.
In this presentation I will address our perspective on fighting divorces and family life. Video clips can be part of the presentation. In the workshop on Saturday together with Erik van der Elst (15 hrs), we can illustrate our clinical practice with exercises and video clips
