Violence and abuse by one family member has a large impact on the whole family system. Relationships are under huge pressure. Within and outside the family there is an avalanche of judgmental perspectives. Some members become victims , others become offenders. A therapist who speaks with the offender works with and within this polarisations and reductions. Systemic work with an offender means connecting with the narrow and often fixated story of the offender and at the same time enrich his perspective by discussing the relational effects of behavior and bringing in the voices of significant others. I present some methods that help the therapist to combine empathy with confrontation and create a multi perspective dialogue. We start our working process with a systemic network analysis. We visualize the gap between the perspective of the offender versus that of the victim, family, justice, society, culture. We challenge the offender, the family and the broader network to do something to restore and to interrupt the circles of repeated victimisation and violence.
