This communication is presented by the Family Therapy Institute of Florence and the Therapy Institute of Empoli. The technique of art images in individual and family therapy is shown. This technique, was invented by Conny Leporatti and reviewed by Rodolfo de Bernart. It was already introduced at the EFTA Congress in Berlin 2004 and in Paris 2010, and was tested for many years, in many countries, included Turkey. The research in neurosciences and specially the discovery of the mirror neurons, of inter-subjectivity and of empathy explain why the mind needs images. Inside the therapeutic precess, situations can emerged in which defences of the patient and of the family are important. In this situation, analogical and metaphorical language and empathy in order to create a therapeutic relationship, trough the of use images is a fundamental aid. Image reaches the emotional and affective dimension and the optical unconscious (or the implicit) of the patient and of the family. A clinical case will be reported, underlining role and the power of images. Finally the group will be activated trough the use of images.
